Stand against the abolishment Mornington Peninsula's
Climate Emergency Plan

The Plan provided a strategic approach to addressing the major present and future dangers to our environment and community from climate change, whilst the Declaration provided the policy focus of Council.

The Climate Plan Crisis Explained

The funding cuts and removal of this Plan is devastating. It will decimate the Shire’s previous work on positive actions that help mitigate climate change – that is reducing carbon emissions that are a major contributing factor.

There is now no coherent strategy for limiting climate pollution and global warming through supporting energy efficiency, uptake of renewable energy, nor effectively managing the risks from climate change on our environment or enhancing biodiversity through a safer climate.

The Shire will now focus solely on a case-by-case basis to on trying to manage the damage caused by climate change, rather than planning constructive actions to help reduce it’s impacts in the first place.

The cuts are short-sighted, counter-productive, and not financially responsible in the long run. A safe and liveable climate is essential for the health and wellbeing of all those living on the Peninsula. Our precious wildlife, bushland, cultural identity, tourism, social and mental health, economy, education, safety, and employment all depend on it.
