Climate Emergency Plan
The Plan provided a strategic approach to addressing the major present and future dangers to our environment and community from climate change, whilst the Declaration provided the policy focus of Council.
The Climate Plan Crisis Explained
The funding cuts and removal of this Plan is devastating. It will decimate the Shire’s previous work on positive actions that help mitigate climate change – that is reducing carbon emissions that are a major contributing factor.
There is now no coherent strategy for limiting climate pollution and global warming through supporting energy efficiency, uptake of renewable energy, nor effectively managing the risks from climate change on our environment or enhancing biodiversity through a safer climate.
The Shire will now focus on a case-by-case basis approach, trying to manage the damage caused by climate change, rather than planning constructive actions to help reduce its impacts in the first place.
